The Banda della Magliana was involved in criminal activities during the Italian years of lead (anni di piombo). Given by the media, the name refers to the original neighborhood, the Magliana, of some of its members.
The series is partially based on Banda della Magliana, an Italian criminal organization based in Rome founded in 1975. Lebanese, Freddo, Dandy and the commissioner Scialoja are some of the characters inspired by the true story of the Magliana gang. Love, business, anxieties, friendships, feuds and grudges, paint the picture of the main story, that of a group of criminals who for almost fifteen years, from 1977 to 1992, has caressed an illusion: that of conquering the uncontrollable Rome. Romanzo Criminale – La serie (meaning "Criminal Novel – The Series") is 2008 & 2010 Italian television series based on the novel of the same name by the judge Giancarlo De Cataldo.
